Alaska Department of Natural Resources
Division of Oil & Gas
Alaska

"Alaska has participated in REGS since early development work on the 867, 185 and 820 Transaction Sets. Our participation in REGS has provided us with a thorough understanding of the design and implementation of each of the transaction sets, including the standardization of the data elements. This knowledge has provided a greater appreciation and understanding of the data element definitions than would be obtained from simply implementing the TS after the standards were completed. Another significant advantage was the ability to gain knowledge of the status of industry participants in the use of electronic reporting, and the establishment of key contacts for implementation of electronic reporting."

"Alaska has benefited in ways most other participants were not able to take advantage. For example, Alaska was able to coordinate the re-engineering of its reporting requirements with industry trends and electronic commerce standards. Thus, Alaska was able to incorporate greater flexibility in its reporting requirements to take advantage of electronic reporting technology as well as maximizing the benefits of data standardization made available by the development of the 867 and 185 TSs. In addition, those reporting modifications were further incorporated in our re-engineered royalty accounting system software application to give Alaska a highly versatile and efficient application. Based on an Oracle database, the application can be used for other natural resource accounting applications within our agency, or by other resource agencies looking for a flexible natural resource royalty accounting package."

Merrick Systems, Inc. Merrick

"As an energy industry software vendor specializing in regulatory compliance applications, not only does my REGS membership help me keep up with standards established for electronic submittal to agencies, it also keeps me up to data on related changes in rules and procedures at various state and federal agencies. I also establish invaluable contacts that help me further my education and understanding. REGS membership is time and cost effective because I get a as much information from a few REGS meetings as I would by traveling to a number of cities and spending numerous days extracting this data from different sources."

"Chevron USA is pleased to be actively involved with REGS.   Since its early beginnings, REGS has offered us the opportunity to foster close working relationships with both our regulatory & industry trading partners. Working with the many industry volunteers, together we have created and are continuing to create industry electronic standards that are benefiting our regulatory industry. With the rapid advancement in today’s electronic technologies, now is the time for all to "share best practices in electronic commerce."
